The Need for Speed

I have been into the thrill of going fast for as long as I can remember. My father will attest to my penchant for speeding and for getting so many speeding tickets that my “lead foot” (as it was known), got his entire company dropped from its insurance carrier.

As a kid I was obsessed with car racing and fighter planes (as most kids are), but one plane in particular was the most coveted, the P-51 Mustang. It wasn’t until recently – thanks to the guys from ASB.tv – that I got a chance to see one of the amazing WWII warbirds up close. ASB (which stands for Air Show Buzz) produces some incredible videos with The Horsemen, a three man civilian P-51 Mustang acrobatic team. I was lucky enough to spend time with The Horsemen in LA a few weeks ago for Planes of Fame and again just recently at Jones Beach for the N.Y. Airshow. Full disclosure, we have been working with the ASB guys at my marketing company. That said, I couldn’t ever imagine a cooler client and frankly seeing these in person is something I have wanted to do my whole life. I think there are some staties in Ohio that will be happy I’m finding constructive ways to quench my need for speed. Check out my photos from Planes of Fame and Jones Beach below. Also, click over and see my post about the P-51 Mustang at GQ.

“From the inside it sounds like an angry sewing machine.” What a great description. All the men to whom I’m related get dewy-eyed when the topic of the P-51 comes up.
