Isetan Spring 2009 Catalog

There is a great American Trad story in the Isetan spring 2009 catalog that I thought was worth highlighting here. The Isetan in Shinjuku is one of the most impressive stores in the world, a labyrinth of materialistic pursuits. In fact, the men’s shoe section nearly made me cry. These clothes below might not be identified or available for purchase to most of us, but I thought they are great from a styling / photography perspective. Enjoy.

So great things mixed in here but I’m a sucker for DBs and pink pants. Good to meet you last night by the way

I haven’t seen an Isetan catalogue for years now! The whole academia school-boy look works really well against the modernist setting.

And I absolutely adore the pink trousers!

Siong Chin on May 1, 2009 6:47 PM:

And I just noticed this, but he actually wearing two ties? Or is that just the back of the tie?

    akacocolopez on May 1, 2009 6:49 PM:

wherever this was shot is amazing

    Clifford on May 1, 2009 7:43 PM:

I don’t think that’s pink. It’s Nantucket red, is it not?

    Simon on May 1, 2009 8:06 PM:

The styling is so-so in my opinion, but as some people have already pointed out the setting (esp on the first two pics) is amazing.

BTW, shouldn’t the brand Left Field be added to “The American List”?

    cheers

Re: location. The location is Jiyu Gakuen, a private Christian school in Tokyo. This particular building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1921. It was designated an Important Cultural Property by the government of Japan in 1997.

I think I have to get those pants for my guy. Not sure if I want to brave the crowds during Golden Week, but the color alone is worth it…

    Kazuo, thank you for translating.

HTJ, thanks for identifying the location of the shoot. Also, thanks for taking me for my first trip to said Isetan men’s shoe department. I hope to come back soon.

I love it. That is a great looking Black Fleece suit in the second shot. This Rolleiflex camera makes number 2 I’ve seen in a fashion shoot in as many weeks. Trend?
