Just Because | Agent Provocateur

Jan 26th, 2009 | Categories: Video | by Michael Williams

Meet Rosie Huntington Whiteley. She appears in a little video that Agent Provocateur put together to remind gents that if you neglect your lady on Valentines Day, you will be punished. While I’m not one for the supposed holiday, I would bring my A-game for Ms. Huntington Whiteley. Watch the video here. (Could be NSFW.)

Cottage in a Day

Jan 26th, 2009 | Categories: Shelter | by Michael Williams

There was a show on HGTV a while back about people that preferred small spaces over massive homes. It is something that has really resonated with me over the years. A few months ago I posted something about Tiny portable homes that people seemed to like. Well, apparently the folks in Traverse City, Michigan (that’s the pinky of the mitten for those of you that aren’t great with middle-west geography) also know a thing or two about small spaces. Materialicious turned me onto a company called Cottage in a Day, who worked with architect Michael Fitzhugh to design a group of fantastic looking modular cottage homes. According to the company, once all the components arrive,  setup can be done in a few hours. Hence the name Cottage in a Day. I would love to get a nice piece of Sullivan County (New York) and plant one of these great looking homes. More images after the jump.

Old School NYC Shoe Shops

Not a lot of commentary on this subject. I have been going to some of these stores for years and thought that it was worth a little of ACL’s time to point them out. I love an old school shoe store and New York has some great ones. Enjoy the trip back in time.

Neil Young Live at the BBC c.1971

Jan 22nd, 2009 | Categories: Music, Video | by Michael Williams

I posted this video a while back on The Material Review, but since Neil Young is close to releasing his massive archive on Blu-Ray I figured it was worth reiterating here. It seems good old Neil likes to document things and has hundreds of hours of footage dating back to 1963. The Neil Young Archives comes in three separate parts of ten Blu-Rays per set. Volume 1 alone has a run time of 1200 minutes and covers the years 1963-1972. Fucking A that is crazy pants. At some point down the line Mr. Young will release Volume 2 (1973-1981) and then Volume 3 (1982-1988). So it will take 30 Blu-Rays to get you through 25 years of performances, music and interviews. Since the pure scope of this thing is insane, ownership is basically mandatory for all. It is unclear if this 1971 BBC performance will be included — so you should take a half hour and watch this now. God forbid you walk this earth having only seen 60 hours of Neil Young.

Barbour Limited Edition Collection

Jan 21st, 2009 | Categories: England, Japan, Style | by Michael Williams

With men’s market week going on in NYC, a lot of people are in town and much is happening on the news front. On Tuesday I had a chance to meet up with the gentlemen from Beams+ for cocktails at White Star. Once the Absinthe arrived we quickly got down to talking shop. Seeing as Beams+ is my favorite store on earth, I take their recommendations seriously. One of the things that came up is a new limited edition line from the esteemed UK brand Barbour. The eight piece outerwear collection — designed by Japan’s To Ki To — is a hybrid of classic Barbour from the brand’s archives and modern technical outerwear. I took some time at the Collective trade show to investigate further. After coaxing the Barbour people to show me the line I was blown away by the collection.

ACL Endorses | Three New Things

ACL Endorses is a chance for me share recent discoveries that I think are worth a closer look.

The Selvedge Yard

The fashion insider behind TSY has great taste and a good eye for images. The site covers everything from denim, to design, to art, and tends to lean toward the classics. Good stuff like James Dean in his Jack Purcells pictured below.
