It’s that time again, time for the Italian-craziness that is the ultimate menswear tradeshow Pitti Uomo. I’ve got a lot planned and a healthy amount of sartorial coverage upcoming, but until then I give you these first few teaser shots (below) and the tip to the ACL twitter for the action as it happens.

Over the past few years I have had the good fortune of spending quite a bit of time with some very creative people, the two most influential (on me) being Mark McNairy and Maurizio Donadi. One thing that I have taken away from my time with these two gentlemen is, beyond possessing loads of experience in the business, that the two share an innate ability to see the world in simple yet totally unique ways. It is this creative thinking that never ceases to inspire me with the seemingly simple ideas that turn the world on its ear. Case in point: the Levi’s Vintage Clothing trade show booth for SS12.

The Italians are coming, the Italians are coming. One unstructured sportcoat by land, two if by sea! I’ve brought my Americano ways to Firenze for the much ballyhooed menswear tradeshow to see the forthcoming Italian invasion in their homeland. While in Tuscany, I’ll be checking out the new SS12 clothes from probably the best concentration of brands anywhere in the world. My photos, thoughts, and espresso powered experience is being beamed straight to GQ, you can see the first installment here.

Taylor Supply

While I wasn’t able to attend any of the shows in New York last week, I did manage to stop by the Capsule Show to see some AW11 gear while I am here in Paris. It was good to see some familiar faces so far from home. AW11 doesn’t seem to be much of a departure from what has been happening in the past few seasons, but I still liked what I saw from a bunch of brands at the show.

Taylor Supply continued its good work producing a well made and wearable collection. Jack Spade’s AW11 offerings looked solid with a ton of knits that I wanted to run off with. Gitman Bros. Vintage was having fun with a bunch of crazy prints — including two that you may recognize from your favorite Japonais restaurant. Garbstore had a group of seriously nice pieces on hand that were made in England. Truly beautiful stuff. That Ian Paley sure does make nice clothes. Jamie from London Undercover showed me all of his AW11 umbrellas, bags, scarves and other accessories. When I first met him last year I knew he was capable of great things, something I think is more obvious after seeing all of his stuff in Paris. Don’t sleep on London Undercover.

The past few days have been spent running around (though actually I have been biking) looking at all of the spring 2011 clothes that have rotated over to New York. These times of the year are always fun and inspirational. It is also great to be able to see friends that have come to town from all over the world. I tried to stay focused (which was especially tough yesterday after Monday’s late night activities) and document the good stuff I found and saw. Hope you enjoy.
