The Devil is in the Details | New Designer a. a.

Feb 4th, 2008 | Categories: Design, Fashion Week, Luxury, New York City, Suiting | by Michael Williams

On Sunday, I helped organize the press for a new and very talented designer called Antonio Azzuolo. His line a. a., is made up of beautifully made men’s Bespoke tailored clothing and accoutrements. The designer took inspiration from “the elegant bespoke look popularized by the Rolling Stones in the mid-1960′s.” The guys at The Moment seemed to think Antonio was channeling Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass. The show was styled by my good friend Sally Lyndley who incidentally was being profiled by the Dallas Morning News. Sally helped Antonio bring the collection to life. I look forward to seeing a. a. receive a lot of well deserved recognition as the new company grows.

Some pictures from the presentation below.

Fashion Week Under the Influence | Where to Drink & Dine for the Shows.

Feb 4th, 2008 | Categories: Drinking, Fashion Week, New York City, Style, Suiting | by Michael Williams

In the second installment of Fashion Week Under the Influence we take you to Thom Browne and Unis. We learned from The New York Times that fashion editors don’t eat steaks, so this time we are going to keep the fare light and keep the focus on the drinking.

Part Two

Designer: Thom Browne

Date: Monday, February 4th – 12PM

Show Location: 10th Avenue & 37th Street | A.C.L. Recommends: ESCA (402 W 43rd Street nr. Ninth Avenue).

Thom Browne’s campaign of shock-and-awe continues with what will most certainly prove to be another episode of his lurid and theatrical fashion shows. Once you get your wits about you, head up a few blocks to the delicious Italian seafood restaurant Esca and have a glass of Prosecco with the Lobster pasta or you can just stick to the wine.

Designer: Unis

Date: Wednesday, February 6th – 5pm

Show Location: Bacaro, 136 Division Street on the LES | A.C.L. Recommends: Bacaro (136 Division Street nr. Ludlow).

Unis has a cult following and for good reason. The brand has good taste in clothes, restaurants, fonts (see their website for proof) and this good taste translates right into their collection. They are basically the New York based APC. Good basic clothing with a little edge and a little prep all mixed together. No obsolescence is a key feature – some would call that timeless.

Fashion Week Under the Influence | Where to Drink & Dine for the Shows.

Jan 30th, 2008 | Categories: Drinking, Fashion Week, New York City, Style | by Michael Williams

The best accessory to wear for fashion week? That’s easy, vodka rocks. New York Fashion Week is just around the corner and you are going to need to see and be seen. Even if you are practicing absence from the PR people and their editor friends, you can still make American Express think you were involved. I put together a few bar and restaurant tips for my favorite shows of the week. Being liquored might be the only answer.

Part One

Designer: Rag & Bone
Date: Friday, February 1st – 5PM

Show Location: 42nd Street | A.C.L. Recommends: Keens Steakhouse (72 W 36th Street nr. Sixth Ave).

The one-time hangout for all things Fairchild, Keens is a classic place to toast the always revered Rag & Bone collection. Keens is the perfect go-to spot for a non-pretentious drink and dinner should you desire. The crusty decor of thousands of clay pipes scream Fairfield County WASPy goodness.

Designer: Michael Bastian
Date: Saturday, February 2nd 10am-5pm

Show Location: W. 57th Street | A.C.L. Recommends: Café 745 (Bergdorf Goodman Men, 745 Fifth Avenue at 58th Street, third floor).

The Bergdorf Alum Bastian knows what simple luxury means. Stop by 745 for a noon-time snack after the presentation and enjoy the company of some of men’s most fashionable.
