In addition to being an important day to honor the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice, today holds another important distinction as the official beginning of the American lawn chair season.
I like to think of it as opening day for Major League Lawn Chairing, a sport in which the longer you stay stationary in a webbed chair, the more points you score. To play at a high level you are going to need some help, and by help I mean a cooler and a strong supply of beers. The new Coleman coolers are overpriced. Try to dig up a vintage metal cooler from the ’60s-’80s (if you can find one). My parents have one that, despite being held together with duct tape, keeps ice far longer than their new Coleman.
Those are so satisfying to look at, and US made is a boon.
I love that Coleman cooler – if only it had wheels. The trip from the ferry to the house on fire island is too far without them. But I really lust for it – I just can’t commit to it.
Which sucks.

This is why I come to this site…. I was just thinking about these the other day as well as the antithesis (bag chairs). I have been sprucing up my all american garage including parking a red 1972 chevy c10 truck fleet side cheyenne edition in there. This is all great …but I needed some quality lawn chairs. Thanks for posting.
AND, unlike those backpackable made in China trinket chairs, the web and tube chair is field reparable with only a roll of webbing, scissors, and a screwdriver. Fixing a couple of chairs gets as many brownie points with the Missus as an unexpected bouquet of flowers, and is a Certified Manly Activity (CAM). CAMs have the advantage that your buddies can participate, if only to provide useless advice and help drink the beer.

Full agree you need to post more stuff like this. Best thing about these is the price–totally affordable to most anyone(although I still search these out at estate and yard sales for 2 to 5 bucks) The redwood chairs are also a great backyard chair and fairly easy to find second hand
