Deadstock for Days

While in Tokyo last week with the folks from Red Wing (who is a client, full disclosure and all that good stuff) we fell upon what turned out to be the most amazing cache of deadstock Red Wings that I have ever seen all together in one place. Everything was unworn and for sale – only in Japan my friends. More here.

    I’m thinking of buying my first pair of red wing’s but I find the classic 6’in boots too heavy!
    Do the Moc Toe Oxfords weigh the more or less the same?

    The Japanese hoarding all things Americana used to mildly charming. Now I just find it obnoxious. Can’t wait to see Tokyo hipsters wearing TGI Friday’s or Chili’s waiter uniforms in 10 years.

    I have the 1000 mile boot and love them. However, sometimes I feel they are a little on the sissy side. I came home from work the other night and was doing some blackberry bush root extrication in the backyard and now don’t think they are really meant to be work boots. They feel more like casual Friday shoes, and that is what I generally wear them for. I teach at a University and I frequently see Glee/newsies types wearing them with retro outfits. In addition, the soles have started to roll a bit. If you want them for the office etc. they are great. But, if you want a real work boot I would go with the RW Iron Rangers.
