Clearly I’m obsessed with these Apollo Saturn V rocket launches. Previously I posted the Apollo 11 liftoff from camera E-8 (bonus nerd points for knowing the camera name), but while the video was amazing the voice over guy was pretty lame. The above film is of Apollo 8 (the first ever spaceflight to leave the earth’s orbit and see the dark side of the moon) was shot from the tower to give a different perspective on the massively powerful Saturn V rocket. This Apollo 8 video’s creepy soundtrack (which to me sounds like a mix between something from the movie Scarface and a coffee maker) also trumps the Apollo 11 film, but who’s keeping score. Enjoy!

Since it’s Halloween I think the soundtrack also has a little bit of Frday the 13th, lol … Nice video…
If you haven’t seen it (and I’m betting you have), you must, must, must watch For All Mankind. The whole thing is brilliant and beautiful and awe-inspiring.
Oh, and some of the fashion that the dudes in mission control are wearing in that film just totally slays. :)
Sorry to post twice, but for sheer haunting rocket power (and instability), this clip from Koyaanisqatsi is also pretty breathtaking.
Like the aforementioned For All Mankind, it’s best watched on a big screen with some decent definition and sound.

I have had the pleasure of being in Titusville, FL to view the launch of the Space Shuttle, and have had the opportunity to tour the Kennedy Space Center–it is really amazing to see the history of our space program, actual launch pads, actual rockets, etc…
Makes me really proud of our American space program and the sacrifices that were made to accomplish what they have.
