The people at Gant have teamed up with The Impossible Project to put together one heck of an in-store giveaway. I’m a big fan of Gant and am super impressed with what the folks at The Impossible Project are doing, so I thought it would be cool to share it with you guys. The spoils of the contest are: a limited-edition Dutch-style city bike (made expressly for Gant) and an amazing deadstock Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1 camera with a full kit. Starting today, anyone that buys something from the new Gant AW10 collection at the company’s Bleecker Street store can have their picture taken and entered for a chance to win the whole shebang.
If you aren’t familiar with The Impossible Project, they are people after my own heart. IMPOSSIBLE was created with the aim to save analog instant photography from extinction, and has recently succeeded in producing new analog instant film for traditional Polaroid cameras, thereby saving millions of perfectly functioning Polaroid cameras from becoming obsolete since Polaroid ceased production several years ago. As it stands today IMPOSSIBLE is the only company in the world making instant film. And hats off to them for doing it. What the folks at IMPOSSIBLE did is pretty close to my dream of saving a dying factory or brand from closure. So hats off to them.

A Polaroid SX-70 Accessory Kit with Tripod adapter, Close- Up lens, Lens Shade, Accessory Holder, and Remote Release are also included. The winner will be able to carry everything home in a vintage leather Polaroid SX-70 Kit Case featuring an original SX-70 Quick Start card and “World of SX-70” brochure, IMPOSSIBLE Project bumper sticker, and two unopened flash bars in their original packaging. Fuji is still producing instant film, unless they’ve discontinued the Instax line and I haven’t caught wind of the news yet.
Regarding The Impossible Project, I just got around to cracking open a pack of their TZ-Artistic film and was blown away with the results. A great success.

I love the idea of the IMPOSSIBLE project though I really hope they’ll be able to bring production costs down, or increase production so exposures cost less.
This is cool of them to give this camera away.

I’d love to do coke off of the fenders on that bike. Then ride it through the city high on cocaine and the nightlife.
@Dave Fuji does make instant film. (1) instax film for their instax cameras (aka the “new” polaroid cameras) but it does not work in polaroid cameras and certainly not the SX-70.
(2) pack/ peel-apart film which works in cameras and backs that take type 100 film.

Fuji still makes loads of instant film – several types of ‘peel apart’ black and white (including a very high speed 3000 ASA version) as well as two different formats for the Instax cameras. The peel apart film is incredible, and can be shot with any number of older Polaroid cameras available on ebay for peanuts (they need a very simple modification to the battery holder). I’m a big supporter of the Impossible Project, but must warn that the sx-70 film is so far rather unstable and not so cheap…
Shoot. That’s one sweet, sweet, beautiful bike right there, and one sweet, sweet beautiful Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1. Moving back to NYC 1st of September… here’s hoping the stars align and deliver the bike/camera into my waiting arms!!
I want that bike! I hate seeing Jake Davis. He looks like a Pear shaped effeminate italian mafioso from the 1930s. Way to look like you’re trying too hard. Style is never effortless, but it should look like it is. Its not that the individual pieces are bad, he just doesn’t know what suits him.
