Brimfield in the Summertime Part II

Earlier we saw the people, now you can see all of the good stuff out at Brimfield. This is what makes it worth fighting the heat.

More of the tent in the second picture. I expected to see a British officer sitting in front of it in a folding campaign chair.

I have just the piece to put the beef and ribs doors on.

More photos please!! For those of us that couldn’t make the journey. Amazing. What am I looking at in the third photo?
Great site and great post. Thank You!

Michael Williams on July 16, 2010 10:23 AM:

    Nice stuff….keep em’ coming!

    William on July 16, 2010 10:41 AM:

Great shots. Anyone know where to find one of those vintage officer’s tents? (don’t say Brimfield) I’ve been looking online but haven’t been able to track one down.

The Greyest Ghost on July 16, 2010 10:49 AM:

I was there yesterday too! So many amazing finds. Sadly, I only made it through 4 lots before I got too hot and tired. Saw that booth with the Jadeite though, both this year and last! Haha.

Still adding more, but I’ve posted some of my Brimfield images here:

    Makaga on July 16, 2010 12:46 PM:

@ William, Michael posted an entry about such tents last(?) week.
Look for “America’s Oldest Tent Maker | Armbruster Mfg Co.” and you should find out more details.

    Berton718 on July 16, 2010 2:43 PM:

Thanks for showing the great pics!! I couldn’t go. I wish someone would organize a Bus Trip from NYC to Brimfield!!

    Fausto on July 16, 2010 4:35 PM:

I need that Corps Badges of the US ARMY

    calabreezy on July 16, 2010 5:37 PM:

I think it’s an old porch bunting. The semi-circle flags people put outside during patriotic holidays.

Michael Williams on July 16, 2010 5:39 PM:

It’s a four-part square american flag. I would have bought it, but when assembled it wasn’t that great — to be honest. I want a good, old semi-circle.

That vendo cooler is in fine shape, the paint is perfect looking… wonder if the vending mechanisms were still functioning.

My Dad would to load his own shells for skeet
and trap when I was growing up. I remember carrying
full bags of Remington shot down the cellar stairs. Pain in the ass at the time.
Seems pretty cool now .Thanks for
    the fond memory.

So many objects manufactured in Erie, PA. My wife is from there and so I spend quite a bit of time there. Although I can’t say there’s a whole lot there culture-wise, Michael, I do think you might find it interesting to poke around there as there is still some manufacturing done there. Lots of nooks and crannies. It’s not too far from Buffalo, too…

That looks like the most amazing flea market swap meet ever.

Jesse Stein on July 17, 2010 6:16 PM:

Do you have a calendar or something for all of these wonderful flea markets? I seem to only learn about them after you post your experiences. :(

The closest I’ve ever gotten to a flea market is the East Village Thrift Shop. Which doesn’t have much for us guys, usually…

As with the last both on Brimfield – great stuff.

    Ryan on July 18, 2010 7:14 PM:

Where do you find out about events like this? I want to know when something like this will be in my area.

    Coolness overload!

    Josh on July 19, 2010 9:07 AM:

Thanks to this blog, I made the trip to Brimfield last Friday. I found my long-lost love, a Rolleiflex TLR (circa 1960).

Also, it was REALLY hard not to touch all the old guns. So many cowboy rifles!

    Josh on July 19, 2010 9:14 AM:

And for those in NYC (my former life), the Rhinebeck antique fair is coming up soon. I hear it’s pretty huge: http://www.rhinebeckantiquesfair.com/

As for the tent, Tentsmiths.com and PantherPrimitives.com will make you a tent any way you want it, for a lot less than you would imagine. I have a diamond shelter from Tentsmiths that is the same color as that tent. The fabric color is what tentsmiths call suntan. They do a great job.

    mordechai on July 20, 2010 6:34 PM:

upside down foto of people walking
are those the toms and youre just making us look harder?

Michael Williams on July 21, 2010 12:09 PM:

Mordechai — go troll somewhere else. Those are not Toms shoes in the upside down foto.

    Ashby43 on July 21, 2010 12:21 PM:

Pictures are great. I didn’t see as good of a selection during the weekend but worth looking for last minute deals. I did grab a 50’s GANT ” hugger” shirt not bad for 36 bucks.

    Lisa on July 22, 2010 9:40 AM:

Amazing pictures – wish we had something similar in our part of the world.

Nick Gill on July 22, 2010 6:58 PM:

I just cant work out what the Griswald Erie USA things are? molds for something? Also with the cookware laid out on the green blanket, there is an amazing grinder thingy there on nsect-like legs…delicious.
Please elaborate if you have answers!

    Susan on August 3, 2010 2:13 AM:

I just recognized the booth with the bunting. I have the booth immediately to the left! I now own the red fire extinguisher because the guy couldn’t sell it. Ha! He goes nuts because of the , in his word, ‘junk’ I sell. Metal industrial stuff that I get for free. Stop by and see my in the fall!! ‘though I haven’t decided what to bring yet. Any request?(be civil).
