GGG: Here’s a Fun Fact for ya: The jacket in question was based on a boys slugger jacket, bought in a vintage store in Brooklyn, (for 5 bucks). I’d say it dates back to late 60′s – early 70′s..good karma!

Sorry, but I wore the real Gant Shirtmakers of New Haven “Hugger” [actually made in New Haven] shirts and I neither see nor feel any connection whatsoever to the current Gant product. Recently I did go over to Wooster Square to see the original Gant factory building before Gant moved to Long Wharf and read Marty Gant’s obituary via google. That was interesting but sad. Apparently Elliot Gant and Saul Shapiro[Sero] still live in VT & CT, respectively.

I have searched for over 30 years for the red “lil slugger” baseball jacket I had when I was 2 years old and another one I had at 4 years old. Well I am still on a high since I found it and now own it!!! Thank you Gant Rugger and Christopher Bastian!!! Yes I know, pathetic, the need to go back to when I was 2 years old. (Turning 42. Mid-life crises I guess, but can’t afford the Corvette I want or the vintage Indian cycle) If I could post pics of me when I was kid to prove this is exactly like the one I had, I would. 194.00 was a small price to make my life complete. I can die now! Just bury me in my jacket.

To all the typeface fanatics, please note the dressing room door and font is only temporary – we had a construction delay on the real door and that was a temp solution to get us through the opening. The final version will feature fluted glass and custom hand-painted text. There is hope!

We can, even should, have a discussion about fonts, generally, but a debate over this particular point shouldn’t last very long: Arial is a computer font masquerading here (and always) as a dyed-in-the-wool Modernist original. It was developed in the 80s by Microsoft — hardly the bonafides commensurate with GANT’s historical or current projects.

Still, I agree with unitedstyle’s whole post: the rest of the store looks great. I’m heading back to NYC in a couple weeks for the first time since I moved nearly two years ago — hope to make time to check this.

Also: being a long[ish]-time reader, first time poster, I should probably offer up some admiration. It’s an interesting site and mini empire you’ve built here, Michael, and I always enjoy the read.

…….a little bit of Steven Alan, add the Liquor store, mix it with Rugby, marinated with Art&Science and cook it with Jack Spade…..
Interesting fruit salad of unseasoned typography. The product is Chinese Cabernet, a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a very nice smooth wine.
The simple but curious photography is a great digestif.

Wow, very cool store. I love the look and feel. The only place you can get GANT Rugger here in Vancouver is at Harry’s and the selection is quite minimal.
