Work has me in Vegas for the better part of the week. I may or may not be posting from the desert. I will definitely be posting some things that I see out there upon my return to civilization. I sure wish Las Vegas still looked like these Kodachromes. See you on the other side.

I can never see enough Kodachrome. I looked around for a photoshop filter or something similar to doctor up my own, lifeless, bland digital pictures. I couldn’t find anything… anyone else have any luck?

I still like the contrast of most of the strip to the Tropicana (my grandfather Tony Sherman was the architect). It seems like the only big one that hasn’t gotten blown up- yet.

I wish I could find a pair of glasses with Kodachrome lenses. Everything would look as it would with Kodachrome film; everything would be perfect.
I watched Coppola’s One From The Heart last night, the Las Vegas sets in that are something else.
Man, the orange and green in that 1st image is so saturated. That would look great blown up and hanging on a wall somewhere.

I have a 1950’s boxed Roulette set with the near same ‘Nevada Club’ image as your first photo on the box lid. A lovely toy – made in Japan for the American market. Really captures the excitement of those times.
If you go to Las Vegas and feel the need to see some of the old saturated, kodachromed Vegas. Go to the Neon Sign Graveyard http://www.neonmuseum.org/ and get kicked back in time. It looks as heaven to me.
Hugo’s Cellar way at the back and downstairs at The Four Queens on Fremont for Rat Pack-era steak culture. And the car collection at the Imperial Palace is neat – a little dusty, but still neat…

Um, sorry to be a downer but you guys realize that if you were cool at that time, none of that stuff would have seemed cool to you, don’t you? I live in LV and it is very very uncool. But the fact is that the culture of anti-style is so heavily ingrained here its like trying to separate the pavement from the new yorkers (that’s where I’m from). The fact remains though that if you came sashaying over to LV in the 50s you’d likely find yourself taking a one-way ride out to the state line in the back of a police cruiser, following a free buffet of knuckle sandwiches
