ACL Endorses | Discovery

LP by Discovery (the side project of Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot) is to summer what Bon Iver’s Blood Bank was to winter, on repeat. I thought for sure Passion Pit’s Manners was going to make it all the way through the sunny months, but here we are barely past July 4th and I might have over done it. Discovery is a nice mix of electronic and pop that strikes me enjoyably, especially if I am on a beach or en-route to a beach. In addition to lots of great vocals from Wes, the album features collaborations with Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig and The Dirty Projectors singer Angel Deradoorian. LP by Discovery officially drops tomorrow (July 7th), but is available now at Amie Street (see link and preview tracks below).

yowza! stellar find! ditto on the passion pit. i’ve been overseas for a month and change with only about 7 albums on my macbook, so manners was in heavy roto–maybe too heavy. summer back in bk is looking brighter already.

Insanely great album from start to finish. Playing it for people and seeing them get confused at the start of “I wanna be your boyfriend” is fun too.

This is awesome. It’s like eating ice cream, in 99 degree weather with 98% humidity while walking around Times sq. with all the fat tourists, but for your ears. This is almost as good as Beyonce+her butt (if not better, sorry Beyonce).

    This is actually quite pedestrian…

For what it’s worth, I really dig the color palette of the cover art.

    Ooooooooooh Bill……….

    Nice name.

    Actually quite pedestrian though.

By non-snob standards this album goes in some quite interesting directions and is a lot of fun.

There’s still a lot of bands with the word crystal in them to keep all to yourself. Did Crystal Fighters come out yet?

this is very cool, but i’ve had a hard time finding anything to top the recent dark was the night compilation (www.darkwasthenight.com) in terms of quality and variety. Some strong contributions from Bon Iver, etc., but the yeasayer track “tightrope” is just amazing.

Hoo boy, this album is terrible. Another horrible entry in the execrable new genre of wimpy indie electro pop.

Mr High Life, I like this album but the one that really has been on repeat for me is Phoenix’s new one, ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’. Incredible. Album of the summer for me.
