There are a lot of options out there for canvas sneakers these days. Seeing as I tend to be resistant to change, I have continued to buy and wear Sperry Stripers. The one brand that has caught my eye and made me want to update my footwear game is California’s SeaVees. The company recently collaborated with industry color specialists on a special group of simple Pantone inspired designs. Ironically the new Pantone White release – which celebrates the Summer solstice – is devoid of all color. Just like I like it.
The super basic “California Cool” canvas sneakers will set you back $110. The way New York City treats my footwear, I might need to buy three pairs. That or hope Pantone Black is next. White or black, those are some tasty shoes.
I rarely complain about price when it comes to clothing, and I do like the looks of these, but it’s pretty hard to get behind $110 for some incredibly basic canvas sneakers. Definitely nice though.
Rocking the Pantone 170, orange, as we speak. The shape, fit, quality construction, everything about my Seavees is perfect — like a glove.
those are the perfect shoes. the price is inconsequential for the quality and style you will have on your feet.
Sign me up. Just got a pair of the vans-esque pair, but I wish they had the green left in stock.
how do these justify the price? i’m not trying to be cynical, i just want to know more. like spring courts we know are made of egyptian cotton, silver eyelets, patented rubber insole, the air holes in the sole and what not, but what makes these special in quality to justify $110. why not just buy vans.

I don’t know how you justify things, so to me that is a rhetorical question. And to quote Ari Fleischer (which is just random): “only idiots answer rhetorical questions.”
I think Vans are great and so are these, or you can just cover your feet with a burlap bag. Different strokes for different folks. Now I need to get back to the book of cliches I am working on.

A perfect shoe for fuller wallets. Once again, durability is called into question but if they can outlast a pair of Vans (a spring and summer for me) then they would be worth the cash.

Totally agree, white-out or black-out (if it becomes available) is the way to go here.
On a side note, I love the website… refreshingly simple, but still some surprises lurking around the corner.

Let’s not forget Jack Purcells, which are incredibly durable. I know they’re a touch sportier than the models mentioned, but they’re eminently wearable with a variety of looks.
One thing the SeaVees and Purcell’s share, which I like, is a low midsole. A lot of canvas sneakers seem to have such a high midsole, which I feel makes them look clunky.
Also, Purcells are $65.
I love my superga’s…Italian I know, but $60 well spent. Gum sole!
i judge by the shoes you are wearing. i like what these have to say.
I ordered these guys and have been wearing them for a month or so and love them. Much more comfortable than the Sperry Striper.
