ACL in Los Angeles

I’m off to LA for a quick weekend trip. Anything new that I absolutely must see out there, please give me a heads up in the comments. On Saturday and Sunday I will be out in Chino at Planes of Fame to see The Horsemen of ASB.tv fly three Grumman F8F Bearcats. Sick! If you are around, come join me and some special friends out at the airshow.

If you do make it to Chino, you can connect with me via the ACL Twitter.

Not too sure about things to see in Chino…probably good that you’ll be looking up the majority of the time.

If you don’t make it out there, you always have this show at Andrews Air Force Base all weekend:

After the airshow you could go next door to Pomona and check out the NHRA motorsports museum at the fairgrounds/dragstrip. Not sure about the hours though.

Thanks for the tips. I wasn’t specifically looking for tips in Chino, looking for new stuff in LA proper.

I got a vato who’ll take you to some cock fights.

Followed by a 40oz watching planes take off from LAX.

Which eases the homemade tattoo pain.

    Michael,

I have exactly one recommendation: Pie ‘n’ Burger in Pasadena. Salty waitresses and kindly food since 1963. It’s the quintessential postwar L.A. burger joint. Far better than anything in New York, and currently my favorite burger on earth. The pecan pie isn’t bad either.

Also: Chung King (Sichuan), Soowon kalbi (Korean BBQ), and El Parian (tacos). Gjelina is worthwhile for fancier fare.

I suppose none of that’s new, per se. Oh well.

lunch or dinner at Gjelina in Venice….. Stronghold denim, too.

Nickey Kehoe (home/design/bags) on Highland in Hollywood.

Hit up Robertson, between Beverly and Melrose: start with furniture: Diva, Linea, Modern Living and then move North for clothing: Kitson, Lisa Klein, Varvatos, Chrome Hearts, James Perse and my fav, Maxfields. Fred Segal for lunch, of course.

Also on Robertson, check out Second Time Around Watch co. to chat with the owner and view the selection. Picked up a beautiful 30s Hamilton watch there last weekend.

Definitely go to Confederacy. I was at the GQ party there the other night and this store is right up your alley. It’s in the Los Feliz area on Hollywood Blvd.

Hollywood Trading Company, owned by Zip Stevenson, at 7383 Beverly Blvd. Zip is a pioneer in the Denim/Americana phenomenon. It’s a great shop and he stocks lots of cool boots.
