ACL Endorses | Dawes

When you listen to the soulful harmonies on the new album from the band Dawes you would guess that the guys were from Alabama, not California. Dawes is one part The Band, one part Eagles with a little country mixed in for good measure. Not a bad list of names to be compared to, if you ask me. When my pals Josh Moore and Jason Ross put the record on the other night, Dawes became an instant classic. The good news is the California quartet is out and about touring with San Diego’s Delta Spirit, check them out if you have a chance. (Note to NYers: Dawes is playing Bowery Ballroom on May 22nd.) Two tracks from Dawes’ self titled album after the jump.

Took your recommendation on US Royalty – glad I did. And I saw these guys with Delta Spirit in February (Columbus, OH). You clearly have a fine taste in music.

Damn… I needed this. Beautiful, soulful, classic rock and roll. Thanks for the recommend. I downloaded form itunes and have listened non-stop for an entire day.

Incredible. An instant classic indeed. I will be seeing their show in Seattle next week. Thanks Michael.

I like following your music recommendations. Do you like the Reigning Sound? Kind of an edgier, sadder, more soulful version of honky tonk r ‘n r, less polish.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Wow! Great harmony. I am trying to get Delta Spirit tickets for May but I don’t recall seeing Dawes on the line-up unfortunately.

Dawes may be touring with another band now. They were touring with DS.

Great tunes and a great band but I disagree on one point.

I hear a lot of California in this band. The 1970’s Beach Boys vibe is all over the place in their songs.

    Redwing on May 1, 2009 10:35 PM:

You should tell them to put their shows up on the archive.org. I don’t work for the archive, but live music is the way to judge a band. Get it done! They’re missing out on a huge fan base!

Dawes has that great laid back sound of the 70s. Bought it and am happy I did. Thanks for the tip.

    I like their stuff.
I liked their cover of a cover better than there own stuff here.
    They’re good.

    Whoops! I didn’t spell check.

Great recommendation! I love all the bands that you associated them with, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong. Just picked it up on iTunes…good stuff.
