The geniuses at Mister Freedom are at it again. The spring / summer goods are hitting the streets and San Francisco’s Self Edge was nice enough to send over the first images of the new “shore coat” and denim “signal vest.” The attention to detail on the Mister Freedom items is second to none. Like a lot of the work wear stuff I am into, this collection has to be styled (worn) in a certain way or you run the risk of looking like an extra in a WWII movie. That said, the on-figure photos below aren’t really how I would swing this, but I like the items regardless. More images and info after the jump.

Mister Freedom Shore Jacket

Original limited small batch edition MFSC “white Denimâ€.
• 11oz denim fabric
• Swapped Thread Denim (White warp & indigo weft)
• Sanforized denim: Minimal shrinkage
• Indigo blue solid selvedge id
PATTERN/SPECS:
• Inspired by 1940s USN denim Chore jacket.
• Two Officer type flap expending front pockets.
• Reinforced stitching on shawl collar, lined with blue chambray.
• Concealed chambray inside chest pocket.
• Sand/wind proof blue chambray elastic concealed wrist cuffs.
• Inside stencil “Not for Deck Dutyâ€
• Red MFSC anchor print on inside back
• Side eyelets for hanging dry brass laundry pins.
• Five change/ring buttons front closure. Buttons are original vintage Naval brass 1930s to 1950s stock, randomly mixed.

• Two slanted chest pockets (iPhone and passport size), brass rivets reinforced. 14oz “301†denim.
• Two selvedge slanted D-shape hand pocket, with blue chambray lining, brass rivets reinforced.
• Four button front, composite 13 stars Peacoat type.
• Cinch back strap (non punch through), white MFSC original denim. “No-Scratch†prong metal buckle.
• All single-needle machine construction.
• Two large inside map pockets and two “Conmatic†brass zipper concealed currency pockets.

Cool gear. I agree the context has to be just right or they come off a little costumey.
Maybe it’s just me, but they seem a little like oversized todler clothes from the 70s. It might be the buttons.
I f’ing love Mr. Freedom shirts. This stuff is tbd tho . . . I’ll have to see if it grows on me. Def top quality tho. I almost want it just to collect it.
The guy in the vest could get some cooler glasses.

Johnny, looks like he’s wearing Mykita, that’s as sick as it gets. Those glasses piss on almost anything else.
Point taken Derek, but I still think that guy’s face needs stronger frames. Unless he just got finished doing Mr. Freedom’s taxes. But who am I to judge anyway. Vest looks good on him.
Back on topic, there are other items coming soon in this new Mr. Freedom line this season that should be amazing AND a little more versatile, like the white chambray . . . very excited for that one.

I got the denim workshirt from the last season. Build-quality is insanely tight, but the designing’s even tighter. This guy has an amazing fluency with anonymous workwear detailing, but also a kind of lyricism and humor that makes his stuff unique. It’s completely itself, in a way few things are.
They’ve got the whole back story to the MF S/S 09 line up on the website ( misterfreedom.com ). Nice stuff and extremely high quality, but way out of reach for me price wise. I think you can get a real USN denim jacket for under $400 these days or you could hit up WWII Impressions for a $75 super affordable model.

Looks like top notch quality and construction. Tricky items to wear for fashion sake. I don’t think the styling of these garments do them justice.
I love the attention to detail Christophe has. His stuff is amazing and I love the fact I can find our vintage stuff in his store every time I am in there.
Is it just me or the samples look somewhat horrendous, I was expecting something more but it seems that these pieces combined will land you in a sailor / portman look.
