Wow. AW09's got a really promising campaign. I'm lovin' most of them but my favorites would have to be the two with the hoods. I'm currently into those!

Clearly, those of you who think that BoO represents 'quality' cloths/tailoring, have no idea what 'quality' is.

Hulamonkey,

I'm over your bullshit negative take on things. Why don't you go troll superfuture or style forum. I'm putting you on blast and your comments will be moderated from here on out.

	Regards,

maybe you’re not angry hulamonkey, but you seem sufficiently perturbed enough to post the same rant several times on different blogs whenever the topic of Band of Outsiders comes up. I’m not sure what exactly you have against the brand or if perhaps you fancy yourself as some sort of fashion vigilante who swoops in to save everyone from hype, but as someone who is a fan of the brand and owns lots of their pieces and has plenty of experience with their garments, I’m a little confused about some of your criticisms.

Let’s take quality, for instance. The only thing I can think of in this department that has ever seemed lackluster was an issue with the button thread becoming unraveled on some of their shirts. Annoying, certainly, but after recognizing this problem, if you’ve noticed, this past season they’ve switched the kind of buttons they use and the issue has been resolved. Also, if you ever lost any buttons, which I did once, they are more than happy to mail out more mother of pearl replacements to you than you’ll ever need. (By the way, on the topic of shirts, only their sea-island cotton ones are $300+). That said, aside from the shirts, I’ve never had a problem with anything else. Take the suiting for example. I’ve always found it to be top notch from the type of fabrics chosen – really beautiful salt and pepper Donegal tweeds, for instance, for their schoolboy blazers – to the way the jackets are canvassed – not fused – all the way to the integrity of the lapel roll. The trousers, ditto, are perfect compliments. Not to mention the fact that everything is hand made by craftspeople with more experience making suiting than I’ve had living on earth. Also, everything is made here in the good ‘ol u.s. of a., which seems pretty important especially right now. Keeping money in this country and supporting Americans instead of sending it overseas should be at a premium.

Next up is your issue with the fit. I know you like to claim that only ‘manorexics,’ or ‘manorectics’ whichever spelling you prefer, can wear Band of Outsiders. I’m 6 foot 1 and 160 pounds which is pretty ideal as far as BMI measurements go (if I were a boxer in fact, I’d be fighting as a middleweight) and BoO fits me perfectly. I don’t argue that the garments aren’t made for everyone, but at the same time, what clothing labels are? Sure the sleeves are set high, and the proportions are slim, but saying to wear the clothes you have to be unhealthy or a crackhead is out and out false. In fact it I think it does a disservice to just how impeccable the fit is to just dismiss it like that. And the fit is impeccable. I don’t patronize their line based on how many times it’s mentioned in a gq article or how many times I spot one of their ties in a photo spread, the reason I buy and wear their clothing is it fits. It feels as if it were tailored especially for me. It has the rare gift of not making the wearer look like a shapeless blob. And I know plenty of other people who share this same opinion. If you haven’t had this experience, then I guess you just can’t appreciate the brand the same way, but don’t hate it because you can’t. You don’t fully understand what you’re missing.

I guess what I’m saying is that if you’re going to criticize anything, criticize what you’re able to experience, what you know – the way it looks. Hate it because you don’t like people who dress like Alex P. Keaton. Or hate it because you don’t get the aesthetics of ironic wasp-y classic American clothing. Hate it because you don’t identify with the same cultural touchstones that influence the line (Godard, J.D. Salinger, Wes Anderson, Tuxedo Moon). People have different tastes. That’s fine. But having a vendetta against a company because of generalizations that simply aren’t true or exaggerated just to make a point isn’t kosher. Listen, I don’t want to turn this into a pissing contest because I don’t want to tabloid up ‘a continuous lean,’ so this is all I have to say. I leave you with the last word, or post, as it were. Go ahead, rebuttal. Just don’t call me cherie, cherie

not angry cherie but I don't' like paying $300+ for a badly made shirt. Ideas are great but execution matters. Which is why I also don't buy Raf, made-in-the-third-world, Simons.
I worked in fashion in Japan and there quality matters. Check out Yohji or CdG main lines and you will see quite a difference. Even small, inexpensive brands in Japan are very well made.
Maybe you "appreciate" the Emperor's New Clothes; guess I am more concerned with quality over clusterf*ck hype.
