Tennis Announcer 1: That’s 72 unforced errors for Richie Tenebaum. He’s playing the worst tennis of his life. What’s he feeling right now?
Tennis Announcer 2: I don’t know, Jim. There’s obviously something wrong with him. He’s taken off his shoes and one of his socks and… actually, I think he’s crying.

one of my favorite lines in movies.
I write in a sort of obsolete vernacular…
Obsessed. Post some from Rushmore! “I’m an O.R. doctor.”… “Oh, are you?” Brill.
A great photo of the tennis match scene:

Makes a great desktop background.
“you heard me, Coltrane”
I have a slight obsession with those Miguel Calderón paintings.

“Did you say mescaline?”
“I did indeed”
In the commentary for Tennenbaums there is a great discussion around Hackman using Coltrane instead of the scripted “Satchmo.”
Beau — I updated just for you.
If you could place yourself into one of Wes Anderson’s films, would you:
a) Be a part of Mr. Henry’s crew
b) Fill one of the parts in Max’s rendition of Serpico
c) Be one of Etheline’s suitors
d) Be an Team Zissou intern
c) Replace Brendan
@barstool, thanks for the pic
@ACL, thanks for the clip. It’s been too long.
Just made note of this next door as well. http://bit.ly/12wi3y
Love this! Easily the best scenes from the movie.
Wildcat…Pow…Pow….I’m gonna go.
So, I just found your site via Courtney– and I have to say this post quickly won me over(fav. movie. ever.). I’ll be back daily.
Where did the sunglasses Gene Hackman wears come from?
there honestly needs to be no reason for a tenenbaum moment
wildcat, wiiilldcaaat, :baccooom:
@jk (correction):
-“These are O.R. scrubs.”
-“Oh, are they?”
@pressly29,
The glasses Gene Hackman wore were just thrift shop glasses that the property master found. In the screenplay, they are referred to as Aristotle Onassis – style glasses.
Thank you! I’d been wondering about that for years.
