A new addition to The American List is Vista, California’s Walz Caps. I learned about the company – as I do many good American companies – through the esteemed blog Archival Clothing. Bicycle caps can be tough to pull off, but the Walz caps do a terrific job of melding form and function. The ear flapped wool hats are the perfect cover for rebuffing the cold and are well priced. The cost is especially good when you consider the caps are made right here in the U.S. The entire Walz Caps offering can be seen here.

Walz Cap is an excellent addition to the American List. You might also add Kucharik, a bicycle clothing company out of California. They’ve been around for several decades and sell a similar, Walz-style wool reversible cycling cap (Rivendell Bicycle Works is currently selling a special edition Rivendell x Kucharik edition of the winter cycling cap). Kucharik sells nice, all wool jerseys too.
Walz Caps are one of those reasonably priced products you can actually buy in multiples. I recommend the corduroy and houndstoooth.
Waiting for ACL to issue a Japan List next (listings of the best Japan web shops, etc.).
While it isn’t for biking, if you need a traditional cap with bill and earflaps, you might consider a Stormy Kromer:
