A Look Inside Wm. J. Mills & Co.

I discovered the nautical inspired Mills canvas bags way back in April. I was especially excited about the American made bags because they are sewn right in my back yard in Greenport, Long Island. On a recent trip to the North Fork, ACL reader Chuck Mauro stopped in to Wm. J. Mills & Co. to snap some photos for the canvas bag faithful. According to Chuck: “Greenport itself is a great throwback – good eats, wineries, nautical artifacts.” Sold! Once the weather gets better I am there. Until then enjoy the photos.

Great post. I made a trip out to Greenport this past Fall with friends to see the leaves change and get some good seafood (we ate at Claudio’s) but I missed Mills. I’ll look for it the next time I’m out there.

Me and the wife have a house on Shelter Island and we always go through Greenport to catch the ferry over. Greenport is a great slice of Eastern Seaboard
life. Some great places for food along the main strip and good cheap antique finds like old nautical maps
    and other great maritime finds.

we got a few of these, after seeing them on archival clothing last year, they are in use every sunday for our farmers market produce, and have made awesome gifts…plenty tough and classic.

Been looking at getting a simple tote..and theres just so many.. Wanted something fairly small but not too small.. You made up my mind for me. I went with their Gear II tote in the tan color. I’m sure I’ll be happy with the purchase.
