Goodbye Old Friend

If you haven’t heard, the menswear trade publication DNR put out its last issue today. It is a sad day for the well respected editors at DNR that lost their jobs, and also for the menswear industry as a whole. John Birmingham’s Editor Letter says all you need to know about the past and future of DNR.

It’s truly sad to see this go. I’m hoping WWD can take the ball and run with it, but I’m gonna miss the old DNR.

It is sad to see. Sometimes it seems that the menswear industry is beginning to gain more visibility and success, and consequently respect, but then more bad news comes. Are they still going to publish the quarterly Menswear?

Wow. I just can’t believe so many wonderful publications will be gone. It’s such a shame.

It really is a sad day. I worked in men’s fashion for years and was shocked to see DNR go. Probably the saddest thing about it was that DNR’s own staff was shocked to see it go, and really had no warning. I’m interested to see how WWD handles the transition—whether they’ll incorporate DNR as its own entity or just start reporting on menswear. I’ve been reading WWD daily and either I’m oblivious or the coverage has been very subtle.

What a shock. I’ll miss this incredibly valuable resource, which I’ve relied on for much of my fashion industry intelligence. It’s a sign of just how bad the economy is that they’re closing the doors on what’s basically the only trade publication for the men’s apparel industry.
