GQ | Fall Fashion Issue

Fall is coming, fall is coming. I keep saying it and last week another meteorological sign of autumn appeared, the September issue of GQ. The fall fashion issue – with one James Franco on the cover – features copious amounts of tweeds, wools, corduroy, suits, cashmere, not to mention loads of football coverage. My favorite section of the issue is the four page chunky knit story. I’m counting the minutes until sweater / football season is upon us…

I’d love an ACL post on how to look good at a game in a way that doesn’t get you beat up by other football fans. Something you can be outside in from morning to night and maybe even spill BBQ sauce on.

I got tickets to four games this year and always just end up wearing a team sweatshirt so fans don’t call me a ‘fag.’

And, I’m sorry Chris Long, you look pretty in those pictures and everything, but I’m going down to Virginia to watch your alma mater get crushed by USC on the first week.

Michael Williams on August 18, 2008 2:40 PM:

That is a good idea Matthew. I’m on it. Although, I think the best way to not get beat up, is to avoid wearing USC colors! ha ha

This post just upped my anticipation of my September issue’s arrival even more. And matthew’s idea is a great one.

I pored through this months GQ! As a woman, I was excited to see classic, masculine styles reigning. And men at football games in sweaters as opposed to team jerseys, T shirts, windbreakers, etc…sexy. I always love GQ, but September may have been my favorite issue yet.

More fellows should rock the chunky knits. Also ties with cardigans. I am swooning for the shawl collars. Boy-o-boy …

And I can’t wait to see what you come up with for Matthew.

I just cracked my Sep issue and realized I’m going to need a lot more time to digest it all. Love your blog by the way, I just found it via The Moment. Keep up the good work. Oh an as far as not being called a fag at games, in high school I wore a team sweatshirt under a tweed to games and I felt very comfortably masculine/stylish.

i can’t wait for fall. i hate wearing shorts and sweating everyday.

Ryan Willms on August 18, 2008 7:58 PM:

Hah, I love how readers are worried about being called ‘fags’ and need to find the fashionable balance. Pretty funny, I’m definitely looking forward to nice fall weather, chunky knits, and some pants.

I don’t know if Virginia has to worry. No JDB, no Mark Sanchez (out due to knee injury and not that great while healthy). Just a freshman and a transfer from Ark. fighting for the QB job.

I enjoy the blog, but there is really no need to publish this mainstream garbage…

Michael Williams on August 19, 2008 12:21 AM:

Not garbage, sweaters. I’ll throw up some Purple Magazine for you tomorrow Erik.

I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head as far as game attire. An understated team t shirt/sweatshirt with a tweed jacket seems about right. I’d like to see what ACL does with the idea though.

joanna goddard on August 20, 2008 9:43 AM:

my fave is the top sweater with the hood.

i can’t wait til sweater season either. so cozy. i’m sick of summer dresses!

    Thom on August 20, 2008 2:22 PM:

Shaw collars on everything, especially the return of the dinner jacket.

Might be the golden age of GQ right now…
