From the Desk of…

From the Desk of… is a window into the world and workspace of some of ACL’s most stylish friends.

Aside from being the first woman featured in this space, Brett Lally is a talented designer, artist, muscle car enthusiast and all around great gal. Ms. Lally spends her days working in design at Supreme.

Ms. Lally’s Description

Recently I converted my studio from the center of my small clothing brand, Borne, to a space for painting. I hate clutter and always left my desk clear each night after work as a way of forcing a sense of daily completion. Now, my desk is completely devoid of purchase orders, invoices, and unpaid bills. In its place are oil paints, linseed oil, and turpentine. I got the Herman Miller reproduction desk down the street from an old architecture studio for $100. I traded my chair for an exercise ball to avoid sitting for hours with the wrong posture while I was training for a marathon(that I never completed). I hardly ever use my computer anymore except to play music while trying to learn how to paint. I closed my e-mail account in an effort to further reduce time spent on my computer. My Dad gave me the Leica which I never use but like to look at. I keep a lot of books around for ideas (and to look intellectual) and my 68 Charger model car hoping that one day I’ll trade it in for the real thing. My mom gave me the soapstone Pointer book ends as a poor substitute for an actual dog. The wooden doll is from a Girl/Chocolate art show. Mike Watt painted it. The trophy was a gift from my boyfriend’s family. His grandmother won “Grand Champion in Needlepoint” in Arkansas circa 1959. I also keep pictures from my childhood because I grew up on a farm and love to reminisce.

YEAHHHHHH I LOVE BRETT!!!! Hi Brett :) She and I have exchanged a few emails before and I also sold a few of her accessory Borne pieces at a market in Louisiana last winter. She is such a doll and an incredibly talented lady.
