The first mix is an updated version of my “Wonder Bread”, dive bar, summer rooftop, Cape Cod inspired collection of songs that I would hear as a kid listening to Cleveland’s Majic 105.7. Enjoy!
Mix number two is a response to one TINTIN who endearingly commented not long ago that I should put together a collection of songs that “real ‘Whiskey Tango’ listens to in towns like, Fayettville, NC, Columbus, GA, Palatka, FL, El Paso, TX and Manassas, VA. All cultural low water marks with dentists as hard to find as jobs paying more than $5 an hour.” Well, here it is. How did I do?
No! Wait! Could you at least post (or email me) the playlist of the first dive bar muxtape? I LOVED that one — I’ve been playing it over and over.
This is the previous mix:
* Frankie Valli – Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
* Smokey Robinson – I Second That Emotion
* Simon & Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water
* Main Ingredient – Everybody Plays the fool
* Crosby, Stills & Nash – Long Time Gone
* Bread – The Air That I Breathe
* Bob Dylan – Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right
* Cat Stevens – Oh Very Young
* Loggins and Messina – Danny’s Song
* Creedence Clearwater Revival – Born On the Bayou
* Jackson 5 – I’ll Be There
* The Marvelettes – Please Mr. Postman
Thank you!
Not bad. In ’77 I saw Black Sabbath live in Fayettville, NC. It was horrible. I don’t think you were born yet. And you left out This Lizzie.
I wasn’t born yet — old man.
And if you don’t change it to TINTIN, I’m gonna introduce you to some nice boys from Fayettville, Columbus and Palatka who may not share your love of sack suits and button downs. Nice guys and I kept them out of jail…
Already changed it. Maybe your new nickname should be “Godfather”…
Just watched the first two episodes of Generation Kill per your recommendation. Great stuff.
He’s only a lite colonel. I deserve Chaos.
By the way, that’s “Thin” Lizzie. Great pic of Schuman. I thought he looked like my platoon leader in the Ray Bans but on second thought…there’s a bottle of water on the table and the wine glasses are empty. That’s a no-go in the 82nd Airborne.
Time of the Season is such an underrated song. Underrated by whom…and for what, I’m not sure, but people don’t talk about it enough.
I happen to be from Fayetteville, NC, and I have to tell you that your Whiskey Tango muxtape is far too nuanced and sophisticated for that listening community. Swap out ‘Fox on the Run’ (can be appreciated ironically) for ‘The Seven Bridges Road’ and replace ‘The Weight’ (Robbie Robertson almost has hipster cred) with Nazareth’s ‘Hair of the Dog’… then your comp will be appropriately heinous.
The mix (non-whiskytango) seems to be stuck or just not working.
Actually, I think Muxtape is just muxed up right now.
