Who says that all clothing made in American has to be expensive. Having recently been turned onto Pointer Brand, I was shocked to see that my friend Mark ordered two jackets and a pair of painter shorts for less than $100 dollars! The Bristol, Tennessee based company L.C. King Manufacturing Co. has been making classic work wear since 1913. The Pointer website doesn’t have a store locater so the best way to find it is to order from their store online. (A tip, order the pants two sizes up as they run small.) Even work wear Meccas like Dave’s on Sixth Avenue don’t sell this stuff. Pointer is a true diamond in the rough.
The value for money (as the Brits say) for Pointer Brand is extremely good. It is especially good when you consider the prices of the clothing from companies like Carhartt (which I like, don’t get me wrong) and most of those goods are made outside the U.S. More Pointer Brand pictures can be found here.

I can’t believe it. All of my grandfather’s family is from Bristol (Cowan Bros.) and I’m going there this week! I wonder if they’d let me tour the factory… I could go on an ACL assignment? Let’s talk at dinner on Tuesday.

i read this post on friday, then yesterday i was flipping through an old gq and read something where Junya Watanabe worked with pointer brand in 2006 for the spring collection. thought that was pretty cool.

This post must be a sign! I´ve been trying to order Pointer carpenter pants for the last week, but for some reason the site doesnt work for me (the site could use a make over…). Obviously I should keep trying.
Are you sure the pants run small? Measurements from japanese sites like Jalana and Explorer seem to be true to size.
The fisher stripe and hickory stripe carpenter pants look outstanding aswell, but are unfortunatly out in normal sizes.
The fisher stripe carpenter pants seem to be available in more sizes now.
U.S. made workwear is increasingly hard to find. You could try workwear from companies like Union Line. Carhartt does still make some styles in the U.S.A. You would it made here by having a U in front of the style number.
Buy american and keep americans working!

Yes, The fisher stripe and hickory stripe carpenter pants are great.
I purchased a pair of each a few years back.
Pointer’s denim is a bit on the lighter-weight side… not super sturdy like Carhartt or Levi, but still a good product.
And in my experience, the sizes are true-to-size… didn’t have any trouble there.
Have received many compliments on the hickory stripes (like a classic Osh-Kosh engineer stripe)… and the Fisher stripe is a herringbone look.
Buy American!
I got a denim work apron from them about 6 months back and wear it whenever I am in the kitchen. Impenetrable. Quick and great service as well.
I’ve been buying Pointer since Levi’s left town. Whatever isn’t in stock is worth waiting for, believe me. I have different styles of jeans; denim, duck, fisher stripe, and a duck coat and am satisfied with all. If there is one company that I recommend to folks, It’s Pointer.
